Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical, martial-arts action。

Three hundred years after the events of the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads to supplement the canals, electric lighting in the streets and the homes of the wealthy, and the first steel-framed skyscrapers racing for the clouds。

The Bands of Mourning are the mythical metal minds owned by the Lord Ruler, said to grant anyone who wears them the powers that the Lord Ruler had at his command。 Hardly anyone thinks they really exist。 A kandra researcher has returned to Elendel with images that seem to depict the Bands, as well as writings in a language that no one can read。 Waxillium Ladrian is recruited to travel south to the city of New Seran to investigate。 Along the way he discovers hints that point to the true goals of his uncle Edwarn and the shadowy organization known as The Set。

Surprisingly, I didn't find myself having a hard time during the start of this book (as I usually had with the previous books - however, the wait was always worth it!)。 I absolutely fell in love with the writing and once more in my two favourite characters Wayne & Steris。 Steris is my absolute favourite though!Sanderson has this way of writing to make the dialogues incredibly hilarious (honestly had to laugh out loud a few times) and making his sub plots stand out - whether intended or not。So fa Surprisingly, I didn't find myself having a hard time during the start of this book (as I usually had with the previous books - however, the wait was always worth it!)。 I absolutely fell in love with the writing and once more in my two favourite characters Wayne & Steris。 Steris is my absolute favourite though!Sanderson has this way of writing to make the dialogues incredibly hilarious (honestly had to laugh out loud a few times) and making his sub plots stand out - whether intended or not。So far, my favourite book of the Wax & Wayne Series。 。。。more

The plot thickens, characters develop, and Wayne。 Excellent third part in this series!

Entertaining。 But not amazing。Steris is my new favourite。 The rest of the cast you say? I care less and less about them。 I hope the ending of the series changes my mind。

I've had this book since it released but only realized I'd never read it。 Sacrilege! Such a good story, and it's always good to be back in the Cosmere。 I've had this book since it released but only realized I'd never read it。 Sacrilege! Good read with the opening up the world building of the new continent。 Also, I love Steris Harms as a character for Wax。 Nice to add some romance。 Hope Brandon Sanderson adds more and continues improving。

Sanderson is an evil genius

Another cool interesting story with a dramatic ending。 So much happens in these books that sometimes you forget what to pay attention to but you figure it out as you go。 A little bit mad that I now have to wait for the next book ahhh。

“Plan?” Marasi asked。“Not dyin’。”“Anything more detailed than that?”“Not dyin’ … today?”And now we sit, agonozing, waiting for the next book。Steris has my heart in this book。 Wax & Wayne, funny as always。 And heartbreaking at times, as well。 I'll definitely re-read this one day。 Soon。 It's a lot to take in。 And I'll probably need refresher before the next book comes out。 I'm here to read books, not remember them。 And that's fine。 But some things from this book I'll never forget。 That's good enou “Plan?” Marasi asked。“Not dyin’。”“Anything more detailed than that?”“Not dyin’ … today?”And now we sit, agonozing, waiting for the next book。Steris has my heart in this book。 Wax & Wayne, funny as always。 And heartbreaking at times, as well。 I'll definitely re-read this one day。 Soon。 It's a lot to take in。 And I'll probably need refresher before the next book comes out。 I'm here to read books, not remember them。 And that's fine。 But some things from this book I'll never forget。 That's good enough for me。 。。。more

i can't wait for the conclusion to mistborn era 2。 completely addicted to this world!! and i love the continuation of the worldbuilding as we get to see other cities and civilizations outside of elendel and the familiar culture there。 steris is an absolute icon, marasi is badass af, and wayne is just my favorite roguish cowboy ever—not to mention the power i felt from "sorta-not-really" god wax—brandon sanderson is really just on another level and it shows i can't wait for the conclusion to mistborn era 2。 completely addicted to this world!! and i love the continuation of the worldbuilding as we get to see other cities and civilizations outside of elendel and the familiar culture there。 steris is an absolute icon, marasi is badass af, and wayne is just my favorite roguish cowboy ever—not to mention the power i felt from "sorta-not-really" god wax—brandon sanderson is really just on another level and it shows 。。。more

I love love love this series, it just gets better and better。 Wayne and MeLaan were hilarious as always。 Mara was great too, but Steris was the one who shined for me in this book and I'm so happy with how it all ended。 I am so so happy, it was perfect。 I love love love this series, it just gets better and better。 Wayne and MeLaan were hilarious as always。 Mara was great too, but Steris was the one who shined for me in this book and I'm so happy with how it all ended。 I am so so happy, it was perfect。 。。。more

I wish there was a 3。5 stars option because that’s the real rating I would give Bands of Mourning。 Although I did enjoy the latest entry in the series, there were some aspects that just dragged it a bit down compared to the previous two。 Minor spoilers: This is due to the story and characters moving away from Elendel, a city we have come to know over two books, and go to New Seran。 This is not a negative in itself, but I just did not feel as engaged with the story when Wax and co were making the I wish there was a 3。5 stars option because that’s the real rating I would give Bands of Mourning。 Although I did enjoy the latest entry in the series, there were some aspects that just dragged it a bit down compared to the previous two。 Minor spoilers: This is due to the story and characters moving away from Elendel, a city we have come to know over two books, and go to New Seran。 This is not a negative in itself, but I just did not feel as engaged with the story when Wax and co were making their way towards the new city。 Eventually, however, the story did pick up for me, given a connection to the Lord Ruler from the original trilogy, a character I find interesting。 The aspect I did not particularly warm to was Wayne’s attitude towards Steris, I hadn’t found his character to be frustrating or annoying before until this book。 It did not mean I dislike his character, but even so, I found it to be too much for him。Overall though, I did enjoy the book, the climax especially and the teasers and hints towards what’s next for the group, and given we have branched out of Elendel now, actually would like to see more cities spread across the Elendel Basin。 。。。more

I loved the way Steris' and Wax' relationship developed and I loved seeing the world through Wayne's perspective (still one of my favourite characters)。 I apprecciated how the world got bigger in this book, since I always wondered how there could only be one developed civilasation on this planet。。。。 And the plot was very interesting as well。。I dont want to give away any spoilers but it really took a direction I didnt see coming but it made a lot of sence within the storyline。 I loved the way Steris' and Wax' relationship developed and I loved seeing the world through Wayne's perspective (still one of my favourite characters)。 I apprecciated how the world got bigger in this book, since I always wondered how there could only be one developed civilasation on this planet。。。。 And the plot was very interesting as well。。I dont want to give away any spoilers but it really took a direction I didnt see coming but it made a lot of sence within the storyline。 。。。more

Such a great ending。 I was bit confused with the reveal, but I'm assuming Secret history will explain that。 Very good trilogy though。 I know we're still waiting on the final fourth book of this era, but that won't even be out for another year or so。 The waiting is going to ruin me。 I need to see what happens! In a bit of a left-turn, W&W takes a dive into adventure movie material and becomes a bit like Indiana Jones, with the Macguffin being the Lord Ruler's feruchemical bands and the return of the (honestly weakest part of the book) Nazi-like villains the Set。 Whilst this direction initially interested me, there was more explanation about Cosmere mechanics than the actual logic of what had led to these events, and I found myself having more questions than answers at the end of the book。 The action w In a bit of a left-turn, W&W takes a dive into adventure movie material and becomes a bit like Indiana Jones, with the Macguffin being the Lord Ruler's feruchemical bands and the return of the (honestly weakest part of the book) Nazi-like villains the Set。 Whilst this direction initially interested me, there was more explanation about Cosmere mechanics than the actual logic of what had led to these events, and I found myself having more questions than answers at the end of the book。 The action was fluid, despite arguably slowing the story down at times in spectacle-filled, film-like sequences, and the characters have all developed considerably - Wax wrestles with some internal conflict, Wayne showcases more of himself and society, Marasi has become tougher and situationally-smarter and Steris goes through some really sweet growth。 There was an exciting second-half revelation, and I loved the emotion of the ending。 I can sense where Sanderson wants to take Era 3, but before that there's definitely a lot of room left to explore in Scadrial's near-future, and a secret history to fulfil in it's recent past。。。 Looking forward to the Lost Metal (aka Mistborn 7)! 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Easily my favorite of Era 2 thus far。For all of the reasons I’ll explain, the most of which being the amount of Steris Sanderson gave us in this book。 What a loveable dork。 She really has felt more and more distinct- more so than even Wax and Wayne- with each book and that trend continued through this one。I also think Sanderson’s focus on her and Wax bonding was much better done than the hints with Marasi earlier in Era 2。I also loved the expansion of lore in this book。 From the peoples beyond t Easily my favorite of Era 2 thus far。For all of the reasons I’ll explain, the most of which being the amount of Steris Sanderson gave us in this book。 What a loveable dork。 She really has felt more and more distinct- more so than even Wax and Wayne- with each book and that trend continued through this one。I also think Sanderson’s focus on her and Wax bonding was much better done than the hints with Marasi earlier in Era 2。I also loved the expansion of lore in this book。 From the peoples beyond the Basin to more Hoid to the Set, the Bands and that wonderful Kelsier cliffhanger (which I totally called) at the end。 Really well done, though that’s unsurprising given it’s where Sanderson excels。If I had to say what this book’s strongest point was it was certainly character development, as was Shadows of Self。 The two of them build on one another well and the arc Wax goes through with his grief, Marasi with her identity, and so on we’re just excellent。 I’m thrilled I only have to wait a year for the final part of Era 2 because it’s really only gotten more fun as I’ve gotten to spend more time with Wax, Wayne, Marasi, and Steris。Favorite Quote- “The definition of a lawman, Uncle, is easy, he’s the man who takes the bullet so nobody else has to,” -Waxillium Ladrian 。。。more

The only character from this series I like is Steris and that why I’ve given it 3 stars。 I still would not recommend this series (Mistborn) with all the fantasy books out there。 This is low on the list。
